[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Nexilis, SKC's investment company in copper foil production for secondary batteries, will supply 2 trillion won worth of copper foil to overseas battery makers for 10 years.
According to related industries on the 5th, SK Nexilis recently signed a copper foil supply contract worth 2 trillion won with Japan's Envision AESC. The period of supply is 10 years from 2025.
Envision AESC is a battery manufacturer founded by Nissan Motor of Japan. China's Invision Group took over in 2018, but Nissan and others still remain shareholders. It has factories in Japan, the United States, and China to produce 35GWh batteries. Global automakers such as Nissan and BMW are the main customers.
The copper foil, which SK Nexilis has decided to supply, is expected to enter all global factories run by Envision AESC. With this long-term contract, Invision AESC will be able to stably secure copper foil, one of the core battery materials.
Envision AESC plans to expand its production capacity from the current 35GWh to 400GWh in 2026 by promoting large-scale expansion in North America and Europe, including the United States and Canada. It is also known that the two companies will consider procuring additional copper foil from SK Nexilis if Invision AESC is additionally expanded.
SK Nexilis will sign its fourth large-scale supply contract this year alone.
