[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Mobis' integrated affiliates MOTRAS and UNITUS, dedicated to module and parts production, went on strike.
A series of strikes by two Hyundai Mobis affiliates are expected to disrupt the production of some 6,000 finished cars.
According to the industry, a total of eight hours of strikes took place at production plants in Motras and Unitus in Gyeonggi and Chungcheong provinces on the 5th, about four hours a day and night.
On the 6th, the next day, Motras and Unitus production plants in Ulsan and Gwangju will also stop operating for a total of eight hours, four hours each.
The two companies plan to go on strike one day by one with factories in different regions taking turns.
It is the second time that Motras and Unitus have staged a strike since they joined a general strike by the metal workers' union on July 12. At that time, the two companies went on strike for a total of eight hours, four hours a day and four hours a day.
Their strike has inevitably disrupted production of finished cars. Production disruptions are expected at Hyundai Motor's Asan plant, Kia's Hwaseong and Gwangmyeong plants on the 5th and Kia's Gwangju plant and Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant on the 6th. A total of 6,000 finished cars are expected to be disrupted in production.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Mobis, which is negotiating wages and collective bargaining, is also in the process of a general strike.
The labor union of Hyundai Mobis declared the breakdown of negotiations after the 13th collective bargaining on the 18th of last month and applied for dispute mediation with the National Labor Relations Commission.
On the 25th of last month, the labor union of Hyundai Mobis held a vote on the action of the dispute and the approval rate was 95.48%.
