[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Celltrion announced on the 5th that it will expand a new finished drug (DP) plant that can produce 8 million vials annually on its Songdo campus in Incheon.
To preemptively respond to growing demand for medicine, Celltrion has begun the process of expanding its DP plant that can produce about 8 million liquid vials a year next to the first plant on the Songdo campus.
If the plant is expanded, the internalization ratio of DP production will increase, and product supply stability and cost savings will rapidly increase due to increased sales. The new DP plant will maximize production efficiency by improving production by about 1.8 times even if the number of production personnel by part is reduced by about 20% compared to the existing DP plant.
The cost reduction effect of production costs and personnel reduction is expected to be visible when commercial production begins in earnest. Celltrion expects the operation of the DP plant to reduce costs by about 30% compared to the unit price of each product currently produced through consignment production (CMO).
