[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Korean Air announced on the 5th that it held a demonstration ceremony for SAF·Sustainable Aviation Fuel with GS Caltex at Incheon International Airport (photo).

The Sustainable Aviation Fuel demonstration will be carried out in accordance with the implementation plan announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Korean Air and GS Caltex signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in June for the first bio aviation oil demonstration in Korea. Korean Air plans to carry out a total of six demonstration flights from Incheon to Los Angeles (LA) by November.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional fossil fuel-based aviation oil. It can also be mixed with existing airline oil. Based on data obtained from the pilot operation, the government will come up with quality standards, including the ratio of bio-air oil mix, by the first half of next year. GS Caltex will refuel bio-air oil produced by Finland's NESTE, the world's largest biofuel producer, for the first time in Korea.
