[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplies camera modules to US electric car makers

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has signed a contract to supply camera modules for vehicles to U.S. electric vehicle companies. The supply is estimated to reach trillions of won.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics said the disclosure was the final disclosure of its request for inquiry disclosure in June last year. Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been asked to disclose the inquiry about the news that it will deliver camera modules to Tesla on a total of seven occasions since June last year, saying, "The supply contract with Tesla has not been confirmed." Although the final disclosure did not specify the name of the company, the contracting party is known to be Tesla.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics is expected to supply camera modules to major passenger cars and cyber trucks such as Tesla's model S·3·X·Y.

The camera module mounted on the car is a component that takes pictures of road signals, signs, obstacles, etc. and sends them to an autonomous driving chip that acts as the brain of an electric car.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics is expected to deliver ultra-high-definition products with more than 5 million pixels to Tesla. According to the industry, the market for camera modules for electric devices is expected to grow 15.7% annually to 11.6 trillion won in 2027.
