[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Ecopro, a secondary battery company, announced on the 6th that it has created a new compliance room by separating the compliance team under the existing law office to strengthen ethical management.

On the 1st, Vice President Song Jung-won, who has worked for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), was hired as the head of compliance.

According to the company, he graduated from the department of economics at Seoul National University and passed the 37th civil service examination, and is a corporate trade policy expert who served in key posts in the Fair Trade Commission for 26 years after passing through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The reorganization is interpreted as an attempt to strengthen internal control in the wake of ethical problems such as the company's founder, former chairman Lee Dong-chae, was recently sentenced to prison for using undisclosed information.

The compliance office will create a strong internal control and risk assessment system for the entire family company and take strict actions such as unfair transactions, anti-corruption and ethical violations. It will also overhaul in-house policies and procedures related to ethical management and push for various programs to foster a law-abiding spirit among executives and employees of partner companies.
