[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 7th that it will conduct an inspection on the fact-check verification system of terrestrial channels such as KBS MBC JTBC, general channels and report PPs in relation to fake news and false information reports that were controversial during the last presidential election process.

In accordance with Article 17 of the Broadcasting Act, the Korea Communications Commission re-authorizes and re-approves terrestrial broadcasters, cable channels, and news PPs. It is imposed on the condition that the submitted business plan be faithfully implemented and whether it is implemented or not.

It will check the implementation of the plan to secure fairness and objectivity of the broadcasting submitted by the broadcaster at the time of re-authorization or re-approval, before reviewing whether it violates the terms of re-authorization and re-approval.

If it is confirmed to be a violation of the terms of re-authorization or re-authorization, it is planned to order correction. Failure to comply with the corrective order can result in cancellation of permission and approval, reduction of validity, and suspension of business. First, we will conduct a status check on KBS MBC JTBC and expand it to other broadcasters if necessary. In the future, we plan to focus on related issues when reviewing re-authorization and re-authorization.
