[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Fashion shopping platform Musinsa sent an apology email to all employees. Musinsa recently stirred controversy over remarks by its high-ranking officials that "fines are cheaper than the establishment of workplace daycare centers."

Han Moon-il, head of Musinsa, apologized to employees via e-mail on the 11th for the controversy over his remarks over the establishment of a daycare center. "I deeply apologize for creating unnecessary concerns on behalf of the company's management," Han said in an email.

During an online meeting on the change in the work system, Musinsa sparked controversy after it was reported that Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Choi Young-joon made remarks to the effect that "it is cheaper to pay fines" regarding the establishment of a daycare center.

Under the current Infant Care Act, workplaces that employ more than 300 full-time female workers or 500 full-time workers are required to set up workplace daycare centers. If it is impossible to set up a workplace childcare center, it will be allowed to support childcare, such as jointly operating with another company or signing a consignment contract with a local daycare center. In case of violation, you have to pay the compulsory payment. Musinsa currently has about 1,500 employees, 55% of whom are female employees, which is subject to the establishment of workplace daycare centers.

Musinsa planned to build a daycare center in a new building in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, but it was scrapped due to reasons such as "there are only about 10 actual demanders." At the same time, CFO Choi's remarks became known and came under fire.

Musinsa announced that it will support consignment childcare at the company level from the 18th and implement various additional support measures to solve the low birthrate problem. Regarding the controversy over the abolition of telecommuting, he also mentioned that he would keep the current method and consider the type of work in consideration of economic conditions and conditions. The 'Early Friday' system, which only works four hours a day on the last Friday of every month and leaves work, is also announced to be in operation.

"We are fully aware of the seriousness of the issue caused by the failure to properly understand the minds of Musinsa employees," CEO Han said. "We will listen to the employees' opinions more actively."
