[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The home shopping channels with the most false and exaggerated acts that deceive consumers were Lotte Home Shopping and CJ On Style.
According to data received by Rep. Ha Young-je from the Korea Communications Standards Commission on the 9th, a total of 60 cases were sanctioned for consumer deception of home shopping from 2021 to August this year.
It turned out that most of them promoted the product as if there would be no more chance if they didn't buy it right away under false titles such as "First and Last" and "Last Live," and secretly released the same product after a certain period of time.
In many cases, the performance of the product was exaggerated or false information was exported.
However, there was no single penalty, the highest level of legal sanctions imposed by the Korea Communications Standards Commission, and all of them were only cautions or warnings.
By channel, Lotte Home Shopping topped the list with 10 cases, while CJ On Style came in second with 9 cases. Home & Shopping (6 cases), SK Store (6 cases), GS SHOP (5 cases), Shinsegae Shopping (5 cases), NS Home Shopping (5 cases), Hyundai Home Shopping (4 cases), and K Shopping (4 cases) followed.
Consumer deception on home shopping channels has continued in recent years.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission's legal sanctions on home shopping fell slightly from 21 in 2021 to 19 in 2022, but are now recording 20 cases as of August this year.
