[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Kia's labor and management have reached a tentative agreement on this year's wage negotiations. The so-called "employment succession" clause, which was the biggest issue, was also decided to be revised.

Kia's labor and management announced on the 17th that they have reached a tentative agreement for three consecutive years at the 16th main negotiations in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

Labor and management will first revise the clause on preferential employment of children of long-term employees, which has been criticized for their hereditary employment. It is a rule that "children of one immediate family member of a union member who died of a disease while in office, retired retirement and long-term service (more than 25 years) are employed first." Of the 60 companies with more than 100 employees who have had related clauses so far, 54 have completed the improvement, which has been evaluated as a "private culture" clause. Instead of revising the clause, Kia's labor and management will hire 300 new employees to help ease the youth unemployment crisis.

We have also prepared a plan to secure future competitiveness. Labor and management agreed to cooperate for the successful construction and mass production of the new plant currently underway. The plan also calls for joint efforts to expand domestic investment in core parts of new businesses and future cars, and to secure domestic supplies and stabilize employment due to future business conversion.

The union members' vote on the tentative agreement is scheduled to take place on the 20th.
