[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung SDI recorded record-high sales in the third quarter due to strong sales of electric vehicle batteries.
Samsung SDI announced on the 26th that it recorded sales of 5.9481 trillion won and operating profit of 496 billion won in the third quarter of this year. Sales rose 10.8% year-on-year to a new record high in the third quarter, but operating profit fell 12.3%.
Sales of electric vehicle batteries led the positive performance. Operating profit for square and circular batteries for automobiles rose more than 60 percent on-year. The operating profit margin was 8.3 percent.
By business sector, sales in the battery sector rose 10.5 percent on-year to 5.3384 trillion won, while operating profit fell 15.1 percent on-year to 411.8 billion won.
The electronics sector saw its sales rise 13.9 percent on-year to 608.2 billion won, while its operating profit rose 3.8 percent on-year to 84.2 billion won.
