[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] According to the industry on the 30th, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will hold a board meeting on the 30th.
Asiana Airlines' board of directors will discuss whether to agree to Korean Air's corrective measures to be submitted to the EU's executive committee in connection with the ongoing review of the business combination. The sale of Asiana Airlines' cargo business, which is included in the corrective measures, is the main subject of discussion.
On the same day, Korean Air's board of directors will also put an agreement with Asiana Airlines on the agenda to sell Asiana Airlines' cargo business division, but to help the acquisition maintain its employees' employment. It also plans to finalize corrective measures to be submitted to the EU Commission.
Earlier, the EU Commission raised concerns over restrictions on competition on European routes due to the combination of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.
In response, Korean Air is expected to present a plan to return slots (the number of airport takeoffs and landings) on four out of 14 European routes and sell Asiana Airlines' cargo business. If such a plan is finalized, it is likely to cross the wall of the EU's executive committee, and the last remaining screening by the United States and Japan is expected to speed up.
