[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Afreeca TV posted record-high earnings in the third quarter, with sales of "star balloons" rising sharply.

In the season when online activities are weakening, it is the only online platform that has secured the right to broadcast a large sports event called the Asian Games, especially in the e-sports field where the Korean national team has been active.

Afreeca TV said on the 31st that its operating profit rose 6% on-year to 21.9 billion won in the third quarter on a consolidated basis. Sales rose 7.4 percent to 87.9 billion won and net profit rose 13.2 percent to 19.3 billion won during the same period. Sales are at a quarterly record high.

By business sector, "platform" sales, which account for the majority of "donated economic futures" (star balloons), rose 12.3% year-on-year to 64.9 billion won.

Afreeca TV attracted viewers by introducing various live sports contents in the third quarter, including the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, the 104th National Sports Festival, and the World 3 Cushion Survival 2023.

In particular, as many as 2 million new users experienced African TV services from late September to October when the Asian Games were held, and the highest number of simultaneous viewers of the e-sports "League of Legends" final, which was adopted as an official event this year, exceeded 440,000.

However, content-type advertisements were sluggish at 12.8 billion won, down 25% from the previous year, and platform advertisements also remained at 3.4 billion won, down 20%.
