[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won and Art Center Director Roh So-young's divorce suit will begin on the 9th.
According to legal circles on the 6th, the second division of the Seoul High Court (chief judge Kim Si-chul) will hold the first hearing of the appeals court for the divorce suit between Chairman Choi and director Roh on the 9th. In September 1988, Choi married Roh, the daughter of the late former President Roh Tae-woo, and had three children, but in December 2015, he revealed to the media that he had extramarital children, expressing his intention to divorce Roh.
Since then, Chairman Choi has applied for divorce mediation against Director Roh in July 2017, but it has spread to a lawsuit as the two sides failed to reach an agreement. Roh, who opposed the divorce, also filed a divorce countersuit in December 2019 and demanded half of Choi's SK shares worth 1.3 trillion won in alimony and property division.
The first trial ruled in December last year that the two divorced and Chairman Choi should pay Roh 100 million won in alimony and 66.5 billion won in cash in property division. As both Chairman Choi and Director Roh appealed against the first trial's ruling, the court decided again on their dispute over the division of property.
A 3 billion won alimony suit will also be filed this month by Roh against Choi's cohabitant, Kim Hee-young, chairman of the T&C Foundation.
