[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Kakao Mobility said it will overhaul its taxi fee system. In addition, the company decided to open the Kakao T platform to other taxi platforms to resolve the monopoly.

"We have been criticized for the fee level of the taxi platform and the way services operate," Kakao Mobility said on the 7th. "Considering the special nature of taxis with public characteristics, we will materialize and realize a cheap fee system through meetings with taxi drivers."

Kakao Mobility also announced plans to completely change the way Kakao T platform operates. Kakao Mobility announced, "Regarding the controversy over monopoly, we will focus on improving the quality of movement and co-prosperity of the people by opening the Kakao T platform to other taxi platforms."

He added, "Representative Ryu Geung-sun will attend the meeting in person and discuss it, and we will announce the implementation plan immediately after completing collecting opinions by the end of this year." Kakao Mobility will hold a meeting with taxi drivers on the 13th to discuss the overall taxi service, including the fee system.

Regarding the rumors of the sale, some have drawn the line, saying, "Kakao is not currently considering it at all." Kakao considered selling Kakao Mobility to private equity fund MBK Partners in July last year, but withdrew it due to opposition from executives and employees.
