[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Doosan Bobcat, a small construction machinery and equipment company, announced on the 8th that it will invest $300 million (about 400 billion won) in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to build a new production plant of 65,000㎡ (20,000 pyeong).
Doosan Bobcat is building a plant in Mexico to cope with the growing demand for construction equipment in the North American market. When the new plant is completed, Doosan Bobcat will have production bases in eight countries, including South Korea, the United States, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, India and China.
Monterey, near the U.S. border, is Mexico's leading industrial city. Not only is labor abundant, but tariff-free benefits are applied by the US, Mexico, and Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA). The new plant is scheduled to operate in 2026 and plans to produce 'M-series' loaders to be supplied to North America. The Gruener plant in North Dakota, USA, which currently produces the product, will focus on producing the premium "R-series" loader.
The company said that through the operation of the new plant and the efficiency of the existing facility manufacturing process, the production capacity of loader products to North America will increase by 20%.
