[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] HD Hyundai will launch the 'Electricization Center', which combines the research capabilities of electricization within the group.

HD Hyundai announced on the 13th that it held the opening ceremony of the Electricization Center at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center (GRC) in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, with HD Hyundai Vice Chairman Chung Ki-sun (photo) attending.

HD Hyundai's Motorization Center is an integrated research organization that has been scattered among affiliates in the group. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's Electrical Control Laboratory, HD Hyundai Site Solution's Power Electronics Development Team, and HD Hyundai Electric's Power Systems Laboratory have gathered together in the power generation center. The new center is operated as a direct center of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Future Technology Research Institute.

HD Hyundai appointed Seol Seung-gi, a professor at Seoul National University and a scholar in the field of electricization, as a technical advisor to the electricization center. In the future, Professor Seol will serve as a technical advisor in Hyundai's major business areas such as shipbuilding and marine engineering, construction machinery, electric and robotics, and will also give lectures to executives and employees.

HD Hyundai aims to actively build a "future industrial ecosystem," the group's new vision proposed in December last year through the Motorization Center, which combines the group's electrification research capabilities.

First of all, we plan to conduct research focusing on the electrification technology and core parts development of the construction machinery sector as well as the shipbuilding and marine sector, which is the group's main business. Through this, the goal is to secure technological competitiveness in the group's core businesses such as carbon-free electric propulsion ships and excavators. In addition, the government plans to localize the electric propulsion system for manned and unmanned vessels.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is carrying out the basic design project for the Korean next-generation destroyer (KDDX), which is applied with the 25-megawatt integrated electricity propulsion system for the first time in Korea, from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
