[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Lotte Chemical's labor and management have virtually failed to reach an agreement during the consultation process of the "four-team two-shift," which will be the first pilot operation since its establishment.
According to the petrochemical industry on the 14th, Lotte Chemical's labor and management conducted a total of eight rounds of a task force (TF) for the transition to four groups and two shifts, but failed to reach a final agreement due to recent differences between the two sides. Two of the four shift groups work 12 hours each during the day and night, while the other two groups rest.
Lotte Chemical agreed to operate its third plant in Yeosu from next month to May 31, 2024, before full operation from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025. As a result, the government has also completed consultations on the application of the flexible work system, working hours, meal time, annual leave, and economic and social leave.
However, labor and management disagree in the summer vacation sector. While the management is in a position to proceed with an additional TF on the adjustment of summer vacation after 40 hours (3.3 days) of summer vacation and pilot operation of some factories, the union is arguing that 48 hours (4 days) of summer vacation is needed.
A Lotte Chemical official said, "We are still in talks."
