[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Large kettle materials supply silicon cathode materials to SK On. Following LG Energy Solution, two out of three domestic battery companies have been secured as customers.

Silicon cathode material is a next-generation battery material that can increase the mileage of electric vehicles and shorten charging time. Although many companies have jumped into the development of silicon cathode materials for the importance of materials and future growth, large kettle materials are the only ones being mass-produced in Korea.

The kettle material announced on the 14th that it will supply silicon cathode materials to battery maker SK On from next year. The company signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with SK On early last year and has developed silicon materials suitable for SK On battery systems. The process of mass production parts approval in the second quarter of this year will be completed and delivery will begin in the first quarter of next year.

The material will be applied to battery cells for electric vehicles that will be released in the North American market. Specific automakers and models have not been released. Due to the nature of the material, high-performance models are expected to be applied. In addition to this supply, SK ON and large kettle materials decided to expand cooperation by jointly developing silicon cathode materials with improved life expectancy.
