Fabless and semiconductor businesses such as Dongwoon Anatech have overcome the recession and 'surprise' performance

[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Fabless semiconductor companies posted improved performance in the third and fourth quarters.

As semiconductor prices have been on the rise since hitting bottom recently, it is predicted that these companies' performance in the fourth quarter of this year and next year will be more positive.

According to related industries on the 20th, Dongwoon Anatech achieved record quarterly sales in the third and fourth quarters of this year. According to the company's tally of its performance over the period, its sales rose 275 percent year-on-year to 37.8 billion won.

Dongwoon Anatech posted an operating profit of 10.5 billion won over the same period, turning to a surplus from a deficit in the same period last year. Operating profit is also the highest quarterly record. The profit margin reached 28 percent. Net profit also increased by 11.6 billion won, greatly improving profitability.

Dongwoon Anatech actively supplies automatic focus (AF) and hand tremor prevention (OIS) semiconductors not only to domestic but also to overseas smartphone makers such as China. In particular, AF drive chips continue to occupy the top spot in the global market. In addition, Haptic semiconductors, which produce fine vibrations, deal with leading domestic and foreign automakers and electronics companies.

Telechips also posted record quarterly earnings. According to Telechips' tally of its third and fourth quarter earnings this year, its sales rose 35 percent year-on-year to 52.5 billion won. This is the first time the company has exceeded 50 billion won in quarterly sales since its foundation.

As a result, Telechips has continued its sales growth for five consecutive quarters since the second quarter of last year. During the same period, operating profit rose 59 percent to 6.5 billion won. Profit margins have also improved to 12%. Telechips will focus on the application processor (AP) business, a semiconductor that acts as a brain inside infotainment devices such as automotive audio and video.
