[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hyundai Motor and Kia succeeded in developing a "functional integrated wheel drive system" that can drastically expand interior space by moving major driving parts of automobiles inside the wheel and introduced it for the first time in the world on the 28th. The system can be freely used in various places such as vehicles and robots in the future, which will serve as a "game changer" in targeting the group's future mobility market. On this day, Hyundai Motors and Kia held "Uniwheel Tech Day" at the Community House Masil in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, and unveiled the "Universal Wheel Drive System (Uniwheel)." If this technology is applied, it is possible to freely utilize the space occupied by existing driving systems, creating new indoor spaces, as well as realizing future mobility optimized for various purposes such as purpose-based vehicles (PBV). The Uniwheel, unveiled by Hyundai Motor and Kia, has a special meteor gear structure consisting of a central Sun Gear, four left and right Pinion Geers, and the outermost Ring Gear. This allows Uniwheel to continuously transmit power to any movement of the wheel with almost the same efficiency. It is also estimated that it can replace the role of decelerator of electric vehicles.
