[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Korea Communications Commission temporarily postponed Eulji Academy's application to change the largest investor of Yonhap News TV on the 29th.
However, as the review committee expressed its disapproval with a majority of opinions, the review committee said that it decided to give prior notice of the disposition to the applicant, Eulji, based on the opinions of the review committee in accordance with the Administrative Procedures Act, and then make a final decision, which can be interpreted as a suspension on the premise of rejection.
The eight-member committee, including Lee Min-kyu, a professor at Chung-Ang University, expressed a majority opinion that it is difficult for Eulji to provide concrete plans to solve structural problems such as conflicts of interest between Yonhap News Agency and Yonhap News TV and to stably carry out its public responsibilities as a news channel.
It also said that it is not appropriate in terms of public and public interest because the possibility of a paid-in capital increase is not high, the detailed review of the change of the channel name is insufficient, and the profits from the broadcasting business may be diverted to the profits of the school corporation.
On the other hand, the jury said that Eugene E&T's acquisition of YTN should be approved.
However, the Korea Communications Commission put it on hold to decide whether to approve the YTN case after confirming Eugene's insufficient plan, which was pointed out during the screening process.
