[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Mobis has established an electric power plant and strengthened its competitiveness in the future as part of its transformation into an electric power-oriented business.
Hyundai Mobis announced on the 5th that it established 'Jeondonghwa Research Center' within Hyundai Motor Group's Uiwang Research Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, and held an opening ceremony. Lee Kyu-seok, the new president of Hyundai Mobis, attended the opening ceremony and stressed the direction of future growth centered on electrification.
Lee Kyu-seok, the new president of Hyundai Mobis, is one of the two candidates for the president of Hyundai Motor Group this year. As he was promoted from vice president to president on the 17th of last month, he was appointed as CEO of Hyundai Mobis from Hyundai Motor and Kia Purchasing Headquarters. It is said that it has successfully implemented various solutions to stabilize Hyundai Motor Group's supply chain amid unstable business conditions such as the COVID-19 pandemic and war.
The industry interprets the appointment of an expert in the purchasing sector as CEO of Hyundai Mobis, who was in charge of securing materials and reducing costs, as a measure to cope with uncertain business conditions in the future. Overall, the company expects to focus on strengthening profitability by reducing costs rather than expanding its business. Seo Kang-hyun, the new president of Hyundai Steel, who is subject to personnel appointments for other presidents this year, is also a financial expert who served as chief financial officer (CFO) of Hyundai Motor. Likewise, the prevailing view is that personnel appointments focus on financial performance rather than business reinforcement.
In the case of Hyundai Mobis Motorization Research Center, which was established this time, it was built with four basement floors and five floors above ground, totaling 21,600 pyeong. It is operated as a comprehensive research center for the development of core components such as R&D, test and performance evaluation, and quality analysis. There are auxiliary buildings such as the test building and the quality analysis building, including the main building of the research building.
Hyundai Mobis said it has established a new electrification research center to bring together R & D capabilities in the electrification sector, which had been divided into the Mabuk Research Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, Uiwang and Seosan, to improve R & D efficiency and proactively respond to the global electrification market.
