[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung Electronics confirmed its reorganization and appointment on the 4th and announced it to department heads. The focus was on preparations for the future, including the movement of key executives who have been in charge of promoting and supporting new businesses to the future business planning team organized by Samsung Electronics, and a new organization in charge of next-generation technology and business support in the semiconductor (DS) sector.

Those who moved to the Future Business Planning Group are Vice President Chung Sung-taek and Managing Director Lee Won-yong. Under Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun, who headed the new organization, key personnel from Samsung Electronics' new business sector are gathering.

Vice President Chung joined Samsung Electronics in August last year. Born in 1976, he graduated from Seoul National University and received his master's and doctorate degrees from Stanford University in the United States, where he worked mainly in global companies. He worked in various fields, including consulting firms Mackenzie & Company and investment bank Goldman Sachs, as well as information technology (IT) companies such as Qualcomm and Deutsche Telekom.

He also has a history of running a startup or starting a business. Jung served as the general manager of the US Mobotap, which developed the mobile app Dolphin Browser, and founded HumanBest in 2012.

After moving to Samsung Electronics, he led the Task Force (T/F) organization in the finished product (DX) division as a vice president. Based on his extensive experience in IT and corporate management, he focused on finding future food for Samsung Electronics. Expectations have also come from inside and outside the company that Samsung Electronics' attempt to acquire and merge (M & A) could be more resilient with Vice President Chung's appointment.

Lee was born in 1978 and graduated from Seoul National University and received his master's and doctorate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After joining Samsung Electronics through Boston Consulting Group (BCG), he was known to have mainly carried out research work. Before moving to the Future Business Planning Team, he was the head of the planning support team at SAIT (formerly Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology).

With the joining of Vice President Chung and Executive Director Lee, Samsung Electronics' future business planning team is gradually getting ready. Samsung Electronics announced the establishment of the Future Business Planning Group at the end of last month and said, "We will find new businesses that are not in line with the existing business and lay the foundation for exploring new business areas."

Samsung Electronics has also organized an organization to secure future technologies in memory semiconductors and system semiconductors. The 'Next Generation Process Development Room' was established under the DS Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Semiconductor Research Institute. Previously, it was a team-level organization but has recently been upgraded to a real-level organization.

Hyun Sang-jin was appointed as the team leader. He is a next-generation semiconductor process development expert. It is said to have contributed to mass production of 3nm semiconductors that applied the world's first GAA transistor structure in Samsung Electronics' foundry business.
