[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] LG Energy Solution, along with ICPT, a Polish battery pack manufacturing and sales company, is speeding up its efforts to tap into the battery market for electric commercial vehicles in Europe.

LG Energy Solutions announced on August 8 that it has signed a contract with ICPT to supply battery modules.

Under the deal, LG Energy Solutions will supply about 200,000 nickel, cobalt and manganese (NCM) battery modules to ICPT over the next three years. This is the amount that can produce about 3,000 large electric commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks.

Established in 2005, ICPT is a manufacturer and seller of battery packs and has a solid supply chain in Europe by operating a "Giga Factory X" pack and module assembly plant in Poland.

Electric vehicle batteries are divided into cells (Cell), modules (Module), and packs (Pack) depending on the assembly unit. The module is put into a frame to protect a large number of battery cells from external shocks, heat and vibration, and these modules are equipped with various control and protection systems.

ICPT will assemble modules supplied from LG Energy Solutions into packs and deliver them to Solaris Bus & Coach, the No. 1 electric bus market share in Europe.
