[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Competitors have been busy since Twitch, a video streaming platform, announced on Feb. 27 next year that it will completely withdraw from South Korea.
In order to attract "Twitch refugees" who have been forced to leave Twitch, African TV (TV) has launched a "short form (short video) service," and Naver is launching a new platform "CHZZK."
According to the industry on the 14th, Naver will release a beta release (distributed before the official announcement) of the game's real-time streaming platform 'CHZZK' on the 19th. CHZZK will actively woo Twitch refugees with high definition (1080p), which Twitch gave up in September last year, taking issue with the Korean government's regulations and network usage fees. It also provides a "VOD service" that Twitch gave up.
Twitch is a game streaming platform that Amazon acquired in August 2014 for $ 970 million (1.28 trillion won). Since February 2015, it has been operating with servers in Korea, which has been popular among young people. In April 2017, it was ranked No. 1 in the most used video app by the nation's jet generation. Last year, Twitch sales amounted to $ 2.8 billion (3.5 trillion won), and the proportion of Korean broadcasting time within Twitch reached 6%. Applying this, Twitch's domestic sales last year are estimated at 203.6 billion won.
The number of Twitch refugees is estimated to exceed 2 million on a monthly basis (MAU).
