[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Han Ki-jung, chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, announced in his New Year's address on the 1st that he would actively respond to the enactment of the "platform law."

In his New Year's address on this day, Chairman Han said, "Consumers, small business owners, and startups (sprout companies) are frequently suffering damage as a small number of platform operators monopolize the market," and added, "As competition and consumer protection authorities, we must address the dark side of the digital economy."

The FTC previously announced its plan to push for legislation of the Platform Act, which includes designating platform operators with exclusive status in the market as "dominant operators" and strengthening surveillance by defining prohibited acts.

Chairman Han said, "If the illegal expansion of monopolistic platforms' dominance (through the Platform Act legislation) is blocked and a market environment is created where other platforms, such as startups, can compete freely, the economic burden on small business owners and consumers will be alleviated." expected. He added, "We must also continue to follow the rules of the Fair Trade Act," and added, "We will take strict action against any foul play that hinders competition and innovation in the digital market."

He also said he would take care of people's livelihoods based on close communication with the field.
